It all depends on the famous Apple factor that we have said many times over in these pages which reader Santos also mentions as a final comment in his e-mail.
"What makes a competitor stand out is their innovative approach that is theirs, and theirs alone. That's what Apple has been doing all along," said Santos.
So if Apple can create something cool and innovative with their rumored tablet computer, it just might work. But the price factor is also an issue. O'Grady at ZDNet.com suggests that Apple makes its tablet have, "a thin and light profile" (the innovation and style) with a price between $499 and $799.
Right now, the biggest question of all is, is Apple planning to shell out the newest video iPod, the "true" video iPod, with this new touch screen innovation they've created, or are they saving it for something bigger (or smaller) such as an Apple tablet computer?
O'Grady ends his piece saying to readers, "While I don't expect the Apple tablet to replace my MacBook Pro, it would be a nice addition to my Mac family."
Though for this columnist's desires, we're still waiting for a member of the Mac family to surface, the MacBook mini, in various shades of anodized aluminum. For now, the Apple tablet can wait, though, that "true" video iPod with touch screen controls would surely be a front runner.
Since, we've held off on buying the iPod with video ourselves when we heard rumors floating around that it was only the beginning of something better to come, that "true" video iPod.
(And the rumor mills keep running as well).
