Mac Systems Sales Surge Expected To Continue Through 2015
Digitimes’ Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai note that Apple has reported shipping 4.8 million Mac products in its fiscal 2015 third-quarter (which ended June 27, 2015), up 5 percent sequentially and 9 percent year-over-year.
They also cite sources from Apple’s upstream OEM supply chain reporting that orders for Mac systems for the second calendar half of 2015 are stable, with overall volumes shipped expected to surpass first half metrics.
Lee and Tsai’s insider moles also note that Apple’s share of the PC market is continues to rise as its MacBook Air products have been attarcting converts from the Wintel side, a trend accelerating after the Windows 8 release, and also attributable to Apple’s adjusting Mac pricing to make them more price-competitive with Windows PC hardware.
The reporters say Apple’s iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are all currently manufactured by longtime Apple collaborator Quanta Computer, while the new 12-inch MacBook is produced by Pegatron Technology — another veteran Apple OEM subcontractor.
Apple has also reported iPhone shipments reaching 47.53 million units in its fiscal third-quarter 2015, down from 61.17 million units in the previous quarter, but up from 35.20 million units year-over-year. However, Apple shipped only 10.93 million iPads, down from 12.62 million units in the previous quarter and 13.28 million units in Q3 2014.
