12″ Retina MacBook In Shootout With Air And Pro Cousins

BareFeats’ rob-ART morgan has posted another comparison of the 12″ MacBook with other Mac laptops, noting that the general goodness of all Mac laptops can make which one to purchase a tough decision as to which to buy, but says if performance is an important factor, he has the answer.

Morgan pits the early 2015 Retina MacBook 12″ against the early 2015 Retina MacBook Pro 13″ with 3.1GHz Dual-Core Intel i7 processor, the late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro 13″ with 2.4GHz Dual-Core Intel i5 processor, the early 2014′ MacBook Air 11″ with 1.4GHz Dual-Core Intel i5 processor, and the mid 2012 MacBook Air 11″ with 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 processor. All laptops were running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 for the various shootout tests.

He notes that as expected, the early 2015 Retina MacBook Pro 13″ dominated in all the tests, and the ‘early 2015’ Retina MacBook 12″ wasn’t competitive on CPU tests against the MacBook Airs although it did beat them in the storage READ test and beat the 2012 MacBook Air in two of the three GPU tests as , well.

However Morgan observes that what is NOT quantified in these benchmarking metrics is the 12″ MacBook’s Retina screen versus non-Retina screen of the MacBook Airs, and deduces that for many, the Retina panel will be compensation for putting up with the compromised performance, and there are also the re-engineered keyboard and touchpad and silent fanlessness to consider.
