PowerBook 5300c
The 5300c is identical to the 5300cs with the exception of its nice active-matrix display. At 10.4 inches, it's nearly a full inch larger than the one in the 540c and nice for multimedia presentations, and the 5300c outperforms the 540c by 25%. In addition, the 5300-series were the first 'Books to offer users a wide range of capabilities, including 2 PC Card slots, an expansion bay, IR capabilities, user-installable RAM, lithium-ion batteries, and an improved trackpad. The 5300c was a decent buy, even if the 100MHz processor was a little slow for its time. On the used market, the 5300c is holding its price nicely. Unfortunately, a used 1400c/117 can be had for nearly the same price, and the 1400 is a vastly superior machine.
