DEVONthink To Go 2.1.3 For iOS Adds New Declutterer And Brings Automation
DEVONtechnologies has updated DEVONthink To Go, its iOS companion to DEVONthink for Mac. Enhancements and bug fixes in Version 2.1.3 include DEVONtechnologies’ new decluttering service for clipping web pages and adds new settings for PDFs. It also improves automation with new URL commands and x-callback-url support. A new smart group lists all items that have comments, and email attachments are now shown separately so that they can be viewed and shared. The Apple Pencil support for PDF annotations has been improved too. The update is free and recommended for all users.
Following its Mac counterpart, DEVONthink To Go 2.1.3 replaces use of Instapaper for decluttering clipped web pages and articles. Devon’s own new web service makes the app independent from third-party services and is prepared for future improvements.
Viewing PDFs in DEVONthink To Go becomes more comfortable with two new settings. Continuous scrolling allows to maintain the zoom level while browsing PDFs. And users of smaller iPads can let the app display only one page at a time instead of two next to each other in landscape orientation. Working with email messages has been improved, too, with attachments listed separately so that users can view and share them.
Other usability enhancements in version 2.1.3 include better Apple Pencil support for annotating PDFs and improved searching while typing. A new smart group lists items with comments. In addition, it’s now possible to copy item links for databases. This makes it possible to, e.g., open them from OmniFocus tasks or Calendar entries. Switching away from DEVONthink To Go saves documents without ending editing mode. This makes it more comfortable to look something up in another app while working on a document.
Automation on iOS
It’s still treated as an orphan on iOS: automation. Workflow, the app that was just acquired by Apple, and custom URL schemes are currently your best bet for automating repetitive tasks across apps. DEVONthink To Go 2.1.3 greatly enhances the existing set of URL commands. New calls allow users to add documents, retrieve item data, and search their databases. Using the x-callback-url scheme all commands also return data to the calling app if needed.
“Our users are power users. They make heavy use of all aspects of their devices, and they don’t like to do the same thing over and over again. With DEVONthink To Go 2.1.3 we support the available initiatives for creating automated workflows on iOS with an extended set of URL and x-callback-url commands,” comments Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, DEVONtechnologies’ President.
The update also improves responsiveness and reliability, and fixes bugs and glitches. It’s free for existing users and highly recommended.
DEVONthink To Go requires iOS 9.1 or later and is available for US $14.99 through the iOS App Store. Some features require a one-time in-app purchase.
