Toshiba Announces Availability of Satellite Radius 12 Convertible Laptop
Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD) division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. has announced the availability of the Satellite Radius 12, claimed to be the world’s first 12.5-inch convertible Windows 10 laptop with a 4K Ultra HD display.
Available at Best Buy stores and BestBuy.com, the Satellite Radius 12 features top-of-the-line screen and sound quality, a, lightweight design and a 6th generation “Skylake” Intel Core processor.
“Our design goal was to develop a highly compact, versatile PC that does not compromise on performance or functionality to meet the needs of todays discerning content creator,” says Philip Osako, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. Digital Products Division senior director of product marketing. “Toshiba has created the ultimate companion for the highly mobile, digital consumer that requires versatility, portability and durability with top-of-the-line technology that enables them to fully take advantage of Windows 10 and enhance their productivity and creativity.”
Technicolor Certified 4K Display Enhanced by Corning Gorilla Glass NBT
The Satellite Radius 12 can be configured with a 12.5-inch diagonal touchscreen display with a native 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) resolution that yields 352 pixels per inch, four times as dense as a Full HD display. The display is calibrated and certified by the color experts at Technicolor, and the device includes Chroma Tune for Toshiba software, which allows the user to select the best color scheme for the content they are using. Also available with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display option, both models feature a high-brightness 350-nit screen for use outdoors and IPS technology that provides wide viewing angles.
The laptop’s display is built with Corning Gorilla Glass NBT, which offers 8x-10x higher scratch resistance than soda lime glass displays, plus reduced incidence of damage when inadvertently closing the display on top of an object and a better ability to withstand the shock of accidental bumps.
Taking full advantage of touch notebook displays exposes the device to potential abuses that come with gripping, swiping, wiping and tapping. “Today, a higher level of damage resistance is essential,” observes John Bayne, vice president and general manager, Gorilla Glass, Corning Incorporated. “We developed Corning Gorilla Glass NBT to withstand the rigorous lifestyle of the latest generation convertible touchscreen PCs and Toshiba’s Satellite Radius 12 is the perfect example.”
Small Laptop, Big Listening Experience
Continuing Toshiba’s tradition of offering high quality audio across its line of laptops, the Satellite Radius 12 includes a custom-designed adaptive audio system engineered by Harman Kardon and Toshiba specifically for convertible laptops. Embedded sub-miniature speakers designed and tuned by the audio experts at Harman Kardon deliver sophisticated, rich audio that changes automatically depending on the laptops viewing mode so the sound quality and reach aligns with the screen viewing position. Audio processing software by DTS further tunes the speakers for volume and quality.
“Convertible laptops offer a distinct challenge when trying to deliver great audio in multiple modes as the speaker placement is not stationary anymore,” says Michael Mauser, EVP and President of Lifestyle Division, Harman International. “Through our long-standing collaboration with Toshiba, we have designed an innovative adaptive audio solution that achieves optimized high-quality audio no matter what position the laptop is in so customers experience great sound from every angle.”
Facial Authentication with Windows Hello
The Satellite Radius 12 is one of the first PCs to enable facial authentication with Windows Hello. Powered by an on-board infrared camera that provides a personal, convenient and password-free way to instantaneously log into the device and quickly get to work or play.
The Satellite Radius 12 also accelerates the new features and capabilities of Windows 10. For voice apps like Cortana and Skype, the Satellite Radius 12 features multi-directional TruTalk microphones, which offer clear voice detection, even in noisy environments and a dedicated Cortana key for easily calling up the personal digital assistant in Windows 10.
Maximum Mobile Performance, Maximum Connectivity
The laptops are powered by a 6th generation “Skylake” Intel Core processor, 8GB of RAM2 and can be configured with 256GB or 512GB solid state drives. In addition, the Satellite Radius 12 features 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth plus a full range of ports including HDMI capable of 4K output, one reversible USB Type-C connector that enables fast data transfers over USB 3.1 and two Super Speed USB 3.0 ports. One USB 3.0 port features USB Sleep & Charge technology, which can power mobile devices even when in sleep mode and delivers faster charging speeds when the laptop is off.
Designed for Travel
The Satellite Radius 12 features a highly-mobile compact design housed in durable aluminum to safeguard against the rigors of daily use. Designed for travel, the device weighs just 2.9 pounds with a slim 0.6-inch profile. The Satellite Radius 12 4K Ultra HD Edition features a Brushed Metal Finish in Carbon Gray, while the Full HD model features a Brushed Metal Finish in Silver. Both include LED backlit keyboards.
