Using Two Macs

Mac Group’s Terry White notes that it’s not uncommon these days for people to have two or more Macs [Editor’s note: I have three in active service, and plan on adding an iPad soon], the main drawback of which (aside from capital cost) is the necessity of managing files between two or more “main” computers, and the potential for being frustrated by not having a file you need because it’s on the other/another computer that you don’t have with you. However, White says the solution to this problem isn’t as hard as he thought it would be, thanks in part to all of his email accounts being IMAP based (as opposed to POP3 based – this works with Cloud Webmail as well so long as you have Internet access), wirh calendars, Dashboard Widgets, System Prefs, Transmit FTP favorites, System Prefs and contacts synced between devices using MobileMe, and Google’s Chrome browser supportinf bookmark syncing wirelessly and automatically between computers as well.

For document syncing, White uses Dropbox.com which gives you 2GB of free space in their cloud with access to the same Dropbox folder from all of your devices and more space available at a fee, letting him keep his MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad 2 and iPhone 4 harmoniously in sync with files accessible from them all.
