Low End Mac Columnists Sticking With/Buying iPad 1s
With iOS 4.3, i don’t need to upgrade to an iPad 2 (yet) says Low End Mac’s Austin Leeds noting:
The day the iPad 2 was unveiled to the world, many people asked me if I was going to buy one.Up to that point, I had been completely opposed to buying one – my iPad was good enough for me. After seeing the iPad 2, however, I budged a little. My stance on the iPad 2 is “maybe I’ll buy one, but not right away.”
Why hold off on buying one? Well, other than the obvious issues of financial prudence, early model glitches, and the inevitable “fanboy” label that follows, I have another important reason to hold off: iOS 4.3…..
Meanwhile, LEM’s John Hatchett is awaiting his first iPad, and it’s not an iPad2.
He explains says:
When I saw Steve Jobs on the big stage weaving his magic reality suspension spells about the iPad 2, I went right out and bought a refurbished first generation iPad…. I missed out on the 16 GB model for $349, darn it. But when my paycheck arrived, I ordered a 32 GB model for $429.Why didn’t I get a new, latest iPad 2? C’mon, this is Low End Mac!
Besides, the iPad 2 doesn’t really address the issues that I feel are the Achilles’ heel of the iPad. Yes, thinner and lighter and faster would be nice, but how about support for SD Card storage? How about some printing solutions? How about a frigging USB port and support for external devices?…
The main reason I bought the iPad was the touch interface. Apple has really revolutionized how we interact with computers, and I supposed that Steve Jobs is right in calling Apple’s move into portable devices “post-PC”.
