iPad Shipments To Plumb Record Lows In 1Q16 – Digitimes Research

Digitimes Research’s Jim Hsiao reports that Apple is projected to ship only 9.8 million iPads in the first calendar quarter of 2016, historically the company’s lowest quarterly volume period, but which this year is expected to see decreases of 39.1 percent quarter-over-quarter and nearly 20 percent year-over-year, according to the market research firm’s analysts.

As for the tablet market overall, the estimated 46.65 million tablets to be shipped globally in the first quarter of 2016 will mark a 28.6 percent decrease on quarter and 8.6 ercent on the year, Digitimes Research estimates. In addition to iPads, tablet shipments are forecast to include 21.5 million tablets launched by branded vendors, and 15.4 million units by white-box vendors, representing sequential decreases of 25.9 percent and 24.1 percent, respectively.

Apple is still expected to account for 21 percent of global tablet shipments, followed by Samsung Electronics with 14 percent, Lenovo at 7.2 percent, Amazon at 5.8 percent, Huawei Device at 4 percent, Asustek Computer at 2.7 percent, Microsoft and TCL each with 2.6 percent, LG Electronics 1.8 percent and Acer 1.2 percent.

Seven-inch models (a category in which Apple doesn’t compete) are projected to account for 35.4 percent of shipments, 7.9-inch 13.8 percent, 8.x-inch 6.1 percent, 9.x-inch 23.8 percent, 10.x-inch 10.1 percent and 11-inch and above 10.8 percent.
